History

Alliance Health Center was originally owned and operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph Hospital. In 1964, the sisters moved the hospital from downtown Meridian to the present location at 5000 Highway 39 North, Meridian, Mississippi. In 1977, the hospital was purchased by Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). The name was changed to Meridian Regional Hospital. In 1983, the hospital was sold to Republic Health who initiated the Adolescent Psychiatric/Behavioral Health Clinic and Chemical Dependency. In 1989, the hospital was purchased by local investors and the name was changed to Laurelwood Center. Acute medical/surgical services were discontinued and the focus was exclusively to provide psychiatric services. In 2003, the hospital was acquired by Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. was the largest inpatient provider for Psychiatric/Behavioral Health Services at that time.
